Therefore practice's expectations of Part 1 students shouldn't be sky high, we should help nurture students and teach them too. Part 1 students I believe should be treated differently to Part 2 students by both universities and practices due to lack of exposure to architectural practice. It is unfortunate that students still feel disconnected with practice life - thought this would have been addressed by universities through their curriculums by now. I hear everything you've written - believe it or not these are shared experiences with many of us qualified architects. Well done Sana Tabassum for publishing this article and Jennifer Killick for sharing. #studentsupport #skills #architecture #software #mentoring (FYI There are also studios that use #Vectorworks + #ArchiCAD, but if this is you're only software you'll struggle as these are few + far between) You shouldn't have to do this on your own time but this seems to be the situation right now :( #AutoCAD if you want to work in the regions or for smaller studios #Revit, if you want to work in London, for a large studio or for an AJ100 If you're a student (or Part I graduate) reading this, I STRONGLY suggest becoming an expert in:

74% of this year's Part 1 graduates don't feel confident entering the workplace. Her observation about softwares strike a chord as well, as in recruitment every day we studios crying out for graduates (and architects at all levels actually) with particular software skills, but 90% of the time those that have them are self taught!! This can’t be right…. Interesting article on LinkedIn from Sana Tabassum highlighting the disconnect between #education + #professionalpractice ☹ From my time at RIBA, I heard the same experience over and over again – “my education did not prepare me for what the industry is actually like”.
